The Babies' Names

It's official, we have baby names picked out! First baby (formerly "Baby A") will be John Daniel and "Baby B" will be Matthew Owen.

Hope you like them, because if you don't, it's tough noogies for you... hehe :)

Tiff

Hedgpeth Twins Update: The BIG Ultrasound!

Today was the big day! We got to find out the sexes of the little sprouts today. Of course this ultrasound was really about screening for birth defects and making sure that everything is developing normally. The gender thing was an added bonus!

Without further delay, we're happy to announce that we will be having TWO BOYS!

Their development is perfect, no issues! They are dichorionic/diamniotic twins, which in the world of twinning means that each baby has its own placenta and its own amniotic sac. This means there is a good chance that they are fraternal twins (two eggs, two sperm), but there is still a chance, if the egg split early enough in the pregnancy, that they are identical. My bets are still on fraternal though. Nate jokingly likes to "blame" me for the twinning. "Either way," he says, "You either released two eggs or you split an egg." My response? "First of all, I do not command my eggs to split. Second, you fertilized both eggs. Third? I think if you're going to point fingers you need to take that up with the Lord in your prayer time."

I know that Payton will love being a big sister to two boys and I am sure will enjoy bossing them around. I can't lie, I love that my little girl will have two brothers to have her back when she's older. Especially when young men come calling. And poor Luna doesn't know what's coming. I have already seen while fur popping up on her from Payton, I cannot imagine two boys on top of that.

Well that's all the updates I have for now! Thanks for all of your prayers and support :)

Love,
Tiff, Nate, Payton, Baby A, Baby B, and Luna (phew)

13 Weeks

13 weeks, 3 days today and we had our first routine OB appointment after that first shocking ultrasound. Needless to say when we saw two babies on the screen this time we were much more prepared. I was able to 100% relax once the doctor confirmed both heartbeats and I saw two little bodies squirming around. Seeing the babies actually made me really excited this time! And while I am only 13 weeks, I am measuring 19 weeks - this is gonna get exciting :) Another great part about our visit today is the doctor I saw has been through a twin pregnancy as well! I cannot tell you how nice it is to have a healthcare professional working with me who has actually been there and doesn't have only book knowledge.

We have definitely decided to do a repeat C-Section. Even if all looked good for a vaginal delivery they don't want me laboring too long because of the strain on my uterus, so I'd most likely end up in surgery anyway. Why not save ourselves the trouble and disappointment, ya know? They will schedule between 37-38 weeks which will put us at the last week of June first week of July. We're praying that the little munchkins stay put until then. When I start to get anxious about preterm labor, I remind myself of Jeremiah 1:5. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." This makes me confident that they are in the Lord's hands and He works all things together for good.

On some side notes, my gag reflex is slowly beginning to give me less trouble. The fact that I can take a decongestant now helps the drainage that was causing me to gag (and throw up). I am no longer nauseous and my energy is creeping back. I've started doing a gentle prenatal yoga twice a week and easy walking another two days a week. I've been instructed to keep my heartrate below 140 BPM and I am thrilled that I am allowed to do light exercise.

Payton has been so sweet also. My parents bought her not one, but TWIN baby dolls for Christmas. Payton loves those little babies and insists that they are always together. She also likes to expose my belly and rest her head on it. We are getting very close to being completely weaned from breastfeeding which is exciting and sad all at the same time. I will miss nursing her, as I am sure she will miss being nursed. I am proud that I made it to 21 months and I hope to be as blessed with the twins to nurse that long.

Our next appointment is on February 2nd and we should be able to determine the sexes and what kind of twins they are! I have my money on boy/girl (mostly because that is what I am feeling), which of course rules out idential twins. What do you think?

Until next time...
XO

What I Need

I thought that this pregnancy would be old hat. I knew what to expect, I wouldn't have to call the OB at every concern, and having a child in tote would deflect people's comments about raising children. Finding out that there are two little beans in here has changed that. I already have a list started for questions to ask the doctor at my next visit, I have 2 books that my friend/neighbor has let me borrow, and my mind swims with questions about this and that. All of a sudden everything I knew about being a mom has changed!

To get to the point of this entry. More so than ever I feel like I need my family, friends, and network of support. I think God has put this challenge in front of me to help me become more dependent on Him as well as others (I am really bad about asking for help). As part of my support, here are some things I need:
  1. Prayer. The most important thing. Prayer for a smooth pregnancy, healthy babies, and a smooth transition for our family. And anything else that comes to mind :)
  2. People who build my faith. I need someone to hold me accountable when I become a worry wart. I need someone to snap me out of my concerns and remind me to have faith that the Lord will provide us everything we need and more. If you have something negative, concerning, worrisome, a bad pregnancy/labor/twin experience, or anything that is not going to encourage me or help bring peace, PLEASE just keep the thought to youself. Trust me when I say that if you're thinking it, I've probably thought about it 100x. I don't need others filling my spirit with more worry and concern. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh or mean, but I say this to protect myself, my family, and my two unborn children from addition stress.
  3. Just be there. You don't even have to say anything. Just a hug, and email to say hi, or just make me laugh (just beware I may pee if I laugh too hard).
  4. Love on Payton. Lord knows that poor girl has not had the best mama lately. I've been tired and the TV has become her BFF. That girl has some changes coming her way, so extra love for her is always welcome.
So keep those prayers going and until next time... xo

Say WHAT?

Back in November Nathan and I found out we were expecting. No big surprise since we were in fact trying to get pregnant. But the surprise that came our way on December 13th sent us into a state of shock...

WE'RE HAVING TWINS!!

Never in my life did I ever imagine we'd conceive twins. NEVER. To my knowledge twins do not run in either family so I figured it would never happen to me. HA! After I recovered from the shock (and the shakes) the reality began to set in. TWINS! Here are the details so far:
  • I am due July 15, 2011
  • I am currently 9 1/2 weeks along
  • We will find out the sex (pending baby cooperation) on February 2nd. On that same day we are having a level II ultrasound to scan for birth defects, etc.
  • We do not yet know if they are fraternal or identical
  • I am feeling pretty good, but VERY tired!
  • We're scared out of our pants, but we know God won't give us anything we can't handle.
I'll do my best to keep up with the blog. I look forward to reflecting on this after the babies are born and I hope you all will enjoy the stories also. Please pray for a healthy and "easy" pregnancy.

And to keep this pregnancy light-hearted and humorous, enjoy a cute video:

Long Time, No Post!

WOW, it's been a long time since my last entry! My apologies if there actually is anyone out there  reading my ramblings. Where did we leave off?

Back in August, our little traveling circus took our act to Myrtle Beach to spend time with Nate's parent's timeshare. We managed to go early enough and miss the hurricane frenzy that swept through. Danielle was about 800 miles off the coast which was good for some rip currents, but didn't cloud out the sunshine! It made for a relaxing breeze as well! Payton absolutely loved the ocean! She couldn't get enough of it. Needless to say I got my entire summer's "tan" in one week - HA!

September proved to be busy as usual but was still filled with many blessings. Payton's vocabulary is increasing constantly and she is an eager to communicate. We finally switched her to a forward facing position in the car seat when...(drum roll please) she HIT 20 POUNDS! She is a much happier kid now that her legs aren't being squished and she can see more. Car rides have been much more pleasant. She continues to amaze me with her development, personality, and humor.

Ahhhh... October. One of my favorite months. You know the one reason I love October? Okay, I have a ton of reasons, but #1 is the NC State Fair... deep fried pecan pie here I come! We have already booked a full schedule this month with everything from Family Fun Day that Nate's work puts on, the fair, consignment sales, and a small amount halloween fun. Oh, and we finally got to meet the newest addition to the Hedgpeth clan, our nephew, Gryphon Michael, who was born August 30th. He's a cute little monkey and it was so nice to hold a baby again. Is it time for the traveling circus to increase its numbers? You'll just have to stay tuned if you want to find out more about that adventure!

Here are some pictures to enjoy!

Until next time... xo
